Chapter 3 - In the Deep End
I arrived two days ago to a cold and snow-covered Germany. I'm not sure if I was excited or just relieved. When I got to the airport, I was stopped by border security yet again, but this time they didn't send me back.
I started work yesterday, and as a result of that I have a very sore body. We started at 10am for class, then kept working till about 2pm. Then we had a break till 7.30pm, and worked till 10pm. What a first day at work. I was a little out of it because of the jet lag and general lack of dancing over the past few months. I am so unfit.
I was accepted very quickly and warmly by the company. I had met all of them on my last trip over, but didn't really get to speak much to many of them. Luckily I'm really comfortable with two guys in the company, Eoin and Victor. They are such great guys, and I don't feel like a newbie at all.
They have just started a new work, called Cassandra. I don't know what it's about but I suppose I will be filled in at some point. It's hard to say what it will be like because it's still in the early stages, but I have learned phrases and will be slotted in as the process continues. Hopefully it will be a nice work.
It is so cold here. Every time I walk somewhere, I am constantly swallowing this horrid icy wind. What a big change from the 40ÂșC heat that I came from.
I am staying with a friend of the company, John. He kindly offered a room (and facilities) for a small fee while I sort myself out and look for other accommodation. I'm not going to rush to look for anything, I need to stay somewhere that I am happy, because I really need somewhere nice to come home to especially with this job.
I still can't believe I'm here after such a long struggle. And hell, am I sore!
Picture: View from my window at 5am. Thank you jet lag.
