Australian Detour - The Curse
The year isn't over yet, which means the curse has not ended. I thought it wouldn't affect the last two days of the year, so I became confident and started trusting people and services again. Oh, never will I trust anyone or anything ever again in my life.
I flew into Perth at 5.20am on Monday, ready to sort my life out before I fly off again to Germany. On the way home, Glynn informed me that it was a public holiday because boxing day was on a Saturday. That spoiled my entire day, and my entire week. It meant that the post office wouldn't be open and I wouldn't be able to send my passport to the German embassy, which meant I wouldn't get my passport back till the following Monday (I was hoping to fly on the Saturday or Sunday, meaning I could start fresh on the Monday.
Then Glynn said that the 31st wasn't a public holiday, so I would still get it before the weekend. I was almost happy until the following day when I went to the post office to send my passport. The lady at the counter told me that mail would not be delivered on New Year's Eve. This means that they will only work 2 days this week, the laziness of them all! I fumed for a few minutes and accepted that I wouldn't be leaving till next week. At least my passport was sent off and I thought I would get it back on Monday.
I went to StaTravel to change my airline ticket today, feeling confident that I would get my passport back on Monday. I changed my flight to leave on the Tuesday, paid the extra charges and thought I was on my way. That is, until I got home and checked my e-mail. They hadn't received my passport yet. I called Australia Post and asked them why it wasn't delivered the next day like they promised. They said it was still being delivered and they couldn't help me at all. I fumed at my stupidity in trusting people. Haven't I learned this year that you can't trust anybody?
At least there was one good thing. My travel agent, always on top of her game, said that my ticket had not gone through yet and that she would still be able to put me on a flight later on in the week for the same fare. Thank God for that.
I will not hold my breath just yet. Tomorrow is the last day of this cursed year. I will just stay in bed the whole day and pretend to be dead so that hopefully nothing bad can happen. For all you know, a piano could fall out of the sky and fall on top of my house, right over my bed. Touch wood.
My two New Year's resolutions:
1. Stop trusting people.
2. Be patient, it's not the end of the world. Yet.
