Chapter 2 - Better luck next time

I would love to say that my life has taken a turn for the better.

I’d rather not, because it will probably jinx me and something large and malodorous will fall on my head.

We are slowly approaching opening night here at the West Australian Ballet. We are on stage attempting runs in costume but according to the Germans we look like cheese splattered on a wall. Haha, I had to write that. It’s funny how every dance institution or company is exactly the same! Nobody tells you what’s going on. Why put a notice on the board saying we need make up on the day we actually need it? What exactly are we accomplishing here? Proving the fact that dancers are stupid and disorganised? We’re not, really. I promise.

Time goes by, and I’m almost at the end of the season, which means I need to find something to do after this is all over. I’ve applied for Soft Landing 2, which is a month long workshop in Canberra which focuses on choreography and the development process. It will be good because there are daily technique classes and I’ll be working with people in a similar situation to me. Plus, I’ve never been to Canberra and heard that it’s a rather exciting place. (BAHAHAHA!)

After that, the plan is to do a two-week secondment with Tasdance before going to Sydney to spend some time with Sydney Dance Company, where Mr. Richard Cilli is going to help me get seen by someone important. Who knows how long I will stay? Even I don’t know. By then it will be the end of the year and I will still be unemployed so I will try out for the Melbourne Ballet Company in October. It’s not much, but it’s better than sitting around moping and wishing for better luck.
