Chapter 2 - Little by little

After enduring a few weeks of emotional turmoil and constant worry about where my life is heading, I can safely say that things are starting to happen. I started taking classes with the West Australian Ballet as soon as I got the e-mail (see previous blog), and after a few days plucked up the courage to talk to the Artistic Director, Ivan Cavallari. I spoke honestly and described my situation to him. I did not seek sympathy or pity, but a job. I asked him if I could be a guest in their next season of Romeo & Juliet.

To my surprise, he was extremely generous and warm towards me. He said that he would do what he could and would let me know as soon as possible. Well, now it turns out that he does need some boys for the next season, but the company is currently on holiday and don't start back till next week. I left a message at the company to let them know that I, Keith Chin, will be in class on Tuesday with some expectations. (Even though Europe has taught me not to expect anything.)

I leave Perth for Melbourne in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. I am auditioning for Tasdance on Sunday, but with no expectations this time. I have done so many auditions by now, that I feel a rather seasoned auditionee. I don't know what will come out of this, but it is a good opportunity for them to see my face anyway. Auditions are also a great way to meet other people in the industry and I expect to see many familiar faces.

Things will look up soon. Noone lives in the dumps forever, and even those who do find some sort of happiness somewhere. Now where did I find this optimism?
