Chapter 3 - Premiere
This week was a killer.
This was due to the fact that the premiere of Cassandra was last night. By the end of the previous week, we were still not running the piece, and I was starting to get a little nervous. We only somewhat managed a run by Wednesday, and even then major changes to the set and choreography were still being made. I have never ever felt so unprepared for a performance in my whole life as a dancer.
Then to make things worse, on the morning of the premiere, our director decides that he is a little bored and made like a million changes to the piece. I was in shock, but apparently this always happens. I understand that a piece is never finished, but this was indeed stressful. However, we managed to pull it together shakily, and we gave a pretty good opening night.
What I was really not prepared for was the curtain call and how long it went! In Australia I was used to bowing twice at the most, and last night I think I bowed like 20 times. It's amazing how different audiences can be, regardless of how big or small the theatre and/or company is. All in all I had a really good time, and the process has definitely been an experience; one that will keep going. I can't imagine what the piece will be like by closing night in a few months time.
